It was originally the Decade of Independence Obelisk, erected in 1928; not quite finished. in 1932 it was decided to build a new monument in its place, which would remind the residents of the Žiežmarii surroundings of Lithuania's independence and freedom. in 1932 October 20 the project of the new monument was approved. The author of the monument is Adam Jakševičius. The monument was soon erected on a concrete stepped platform. The pedestal (height – 6.65 m) had a cross-section, with steps at the top. A plaster statue of an angel stood on it. At the bottom of the front side of the pedestal, 2 shield-shaped panels were attached - the upper one was with Vytis, the lower one - with the reliefs of the coat of arms of Žiežmarii. The monument was surrounded from the sides by decorative walls with columns (height 0.96 m) at the ends. Their inner planes were decorated with relief crosses of Vytis. 20th century In the second half of the 1950s, the statue was damaged by gunshots from thugs. It was later demolished and buried by order of the local authorities. in 1956 the pedestal was also broken. His remains were taken to Streva and buried.

in 1989 February 16 a stone with the inscription: "The Statue of Liberty will be rebuilt here" was placed at the monument's place. in 1991 the monument was rebuilt. The author of the Freedom Monument is the artist V. Venckūnienė, and the author of the architectural part of the monument is the architect A. Sprindys. in 1991 December 26 the monument was consecrated. The then chairman of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Lithuania V. Landsbergis, deputies of the Supreme Council: opera soloist N. Ambrazaitytė, monsignor A. Svarinskas, composer J. Juzeliūnas participated. The reconstructed monument is slightly different from the previous one - there are no shields with the coats of arms of Vytis and Žiežmarii and dates on the pedestal.
