The Kanzleistraße leading from the Stadtmarkt via the Brauergildenstraße to the Holzmarkt is one of the streets in the old town of Wolfenbüttel that is particularly worth seeing. Here is also the oldest dated half-timbered building in the city from 1597.
The street name derives from the Kanzlerhaus, which was built at the end of the 16th century by Hans Vredeman de Vries for the Chancellor of the Prince of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.
