Opposite the Bishop's Palace there is a small, low passageway that leads to the Rue des Chanoines. This gives an idea of how medieval towns were built, where pedestrians were the main traffic and which occasionally burned down completely. Narrow, covered alleys, barely wide enough for people, lead to small courtyards, one behind the other, built up closely with half-timbered ensembles. Extremely picturesque from today's perspective. In the last part of the alley, however, the smell also conveys the Middle Ages.
