Don't be put off by the rather understated entrance. The walk up the very steep path and steps is payed back by this amazing and peaceful place

Although called a monastery it actually isn’t. No monks live here, instead this temple was built and is maintained by laypeople.
There are two ways up, one from Pai Tau Village up some steep stairs along some residential buildings, then entering the temple through a gate into the main plaza with the pagoda in it.
Or, via a small path past the IKEA, or alternatively past the cemetery, up a path with hundreds of golden Buddha statues. I definitely recommend the latter. The statues already ‘prepare’ you for the temple, every statue is unique with is gestures and facial expressions. Also it gives you opportunity to rest on the way up, pretending you are taking a close look at a statue ;-)

The temples main hall is filled with probably thousands of small Buddha statues, adding to all the statues around the temple and on the path leading up to it. According to Wikipedia, although named Ten Thousand Buddha Temple, there are about 13000 statues.

The temple can easily be reached by going to Sha Tin MTR station, walking out to Pai Tau Village and then finding the access the the path leading up the temple.
