The former headquarters is now a commercial building.
The commandant's office was built in the 1690s by the fortress builder Dominicus Pelli (1657 - 1728),
The Danish king resided on the upper floor of the building during his stays in Rendsburg from 1761 onwards. In the years 1807 - 1808 King Christian VII stayed permanently in the commandant's office. He died here on March 13, 1808.
The building was popularly nicknamed "Prince's Palace" after its prominent resident, Duke Friedrich von Glücksburg, commander of the regiment stationed in Rendsburg.
