Villa Meyer, the most magnificent Neo-Renaissance villa with a stately, opulent interior, is unique in Gera. It was built between 1881 and 1883 by master builder Luis Kornmann

    for Commercial Councillor Wilhelm Meyer.

The villa, located at the corner of the former Adelheidstraße, is located at the northern entrance to the city.

The facades feature distinctive sculptural design elements.

In 1900, a two-story horse stable with a tower was built in the garden by architect Sittig, which was remodeled in 1905 according to plans by architect Carl Zaenker.

The villa's ground floor was originally used for official functions, with access

to the park via an open staircase. The upper and attic floors were used for residential purposes. The interior design is realized with elaborate details and sophisticated materials. Skylights provide all floors with natural light despite the large building mass. From 1920 onwards, the East Thuringian Chamber of Industry and Commerce used the house.

The horse stable was converted into residential space in 1933. In 1939, the villa became Reich property. From 1981 onwards, it served as a children's facility. The horse stable and greenhouse

were demolished. After more than 20 years of vacancy, Villa Meyer acquired a new owner in 2016. The owner secured the property with urban development funding.

With gradual renovation, the building is to be made usable again as a residential and commercial building.

"...the representative decorative elements on the façade were intended to convey a certain power, social charisma, and a living environment."
