The city pharmacy on the market square is a Renaissance building from 1592. The impressive and richly decorated bay window was added in 1606.

The lower parapet shows the four seasons between five saints. On the upper parapet are the coats of arms of the Gera Principality of Reuss younger line, as well as the mother and two wives of Heinrich Postumus. It was not until 1847 that the city pharmacy was located on the ground floor of the building. The Gera Art Association organizes constantly changing exhibitions on the first floor.

Next to the town hall, another Renaissance building flanks Gera's historic market square:
The City Pharmacy. With its richly decorated bay window, it is one of the most impressive buildings in the city center. From 1847 onwards, the building was used as a pharmacy.

The traditional City Pharmacy is still located on the ground floor today.

The Gera Art Association organizes changing exhibitions on the upper floor.

Under the City Pharmacy are two of Gera's caves dating back to 1712.

Even then, the deep cellars had the ideal temperature for storing
tinctures, cod liver oil, and juices.
