The Breisach Railway ran from Breisach to Colmar, France, until the Breisach railway bridge over the Rhine was destroyed in 1945.
The rather stately and, by today's standards, somewhat oversized station building of Breisach was built in 1913/14 from Kaiserstuhl basalt (volcanic rock). It replaced the temporary barracks that had been in use since the opening of the Breisach Railway.

The station is built from volcanic rock from the Kaiserstuhl region—take a close look! The station building isn't boarded up and still serves its purpose.
On the west side, there's a proper inn right on the platform with a rose garden. It's still waiting to be discovered.
