Otto Grotewohl was Chairman of the Council of Ministers and initially lived in house number 1. In 1963, he moved to house number 21 (originally intended for Wilhelm Pieck) and lived there until his death in 1964. Afterwards, Hermann Axen (Secretary of the Central Committee of the SED from 1966 to 1989) lived in the house until the fall of the Berlin Wall.
