Tips

The Grosser Werder covers 34 ha. The island is subordinate to the administration of Wandlitz, the property rights lie however since 19 October 1914 with the city Berlin, which acquired it at that time for a purchase price of approximately 20,000 Goldmark of the count von Redern.
On the island established itself in the 1920s, a campground, which was steadily expanded and was mainly used by permanent campers. To supply the tenters with the necessary necessities, the owner, in addition to the farmstead of the Nikolaus family, which had already existed since the 18th century, authorized the construction of a small, solid estate on the northern tip of the island. A bungalow became the islanders' hermitage, another building serves as a warehouse and boathouse for a ferry, and in another cottage, the ferryman family lives in the summer months. After the reunification of Germany in 1990, there were considerable problems with the continued use of the campsite, as the German regulations that were now in force were not observed in many respects. For example, there was a lack of communal sanitary facilities, a laundry room, night lighting on the paths and an access road for rescue vehicles. The affected campers formed the Interessengemeinschaft Campingfreunde Liepnitzsee e. V. (ICL), registered under number VR 03/90 at the District Court of Bernau. From the year 2000, thanks to promised improvements, they were able to achieve ten years of continued use as a natural campsite for a maximum of 99 parking spaces. It seems that use has already been extended as the ICL continues to operate the seasonal campsite. She also takes care of the cleaning, garbage collection and more during the season. Visitors to the island can enjoy the sandy south beach of the island as a popular swimming (but without supervision), with naturist and textile use are simply mixed.
The highest point on the island is 73 m above sea level. NN. Through finds of stone chisels, a stone ax, Urnernscherben and Branderde the early use is archaeologically secured.

  • The small island-Klause with a surprisingly big offer. Ideal for a break. Anyway, the next ferry will only take 1 hour.
