Thomas Jaspert: The green thumb (2004, oak wood), set up in Heikendorf.
With a height of around three and a half meters, the oversized hand made of oak wood is truly monumental. And that is exactly the goal of the detailed work: the enlargement of everyday things to monuments. The size gives the hand an enormous power of expression, which is further enhanced by the material: because the hand was made from a single, 240-year-old tree trunk with a diameter of 1.6 meters. The sculpture was not created expressly for the location, but since it was erected in the then new development area "Am Grün", the thumb was painted green, giving it a double meaning.
