The Sallmannshäuser Rennsteig leads across the Milmesberg area. Near the highest point we can still find the remains of the "Salzung messenger woman", a several hundred year old European beech tree (Fagus sylvatica), which was struck by lightning. According to legend, a woman from Salzung who ran messenger services between Bad Salzungen and Bad Salzungen found rest in its shade in the Wartburg town of Eisenach. A beech tree has now been replanted.
