Legende's mine accident happened on October 24, 1963 through a sewage pond belonging to the Mathilde mine. Water and mud entered the pit.

A funeral service was already being prepared for November 4th, as no more survivors were expected. At Barbecke, however, 8 days after the accident, 3 miners could be rescued from an air bubble that had formed at the end of a track about 2.4 km away by drilling and using the Dahlbusch bomb.
And that's where the place we're talking about is. There you will find a drill head like the one used for rescue drilling, along with a commemorative plaque. The actual memorial, on the other hand, is on the eastern edge of Lengede.
After this rescue, several unsuccessful search drillings were carried out until Saturday. The rescue attempts were stopped....
