Hiking Highlight
Dominant building of the city and seat of the main office of the city administration.
The entire mountain was then part of a defensive belt enclosed by a wall, in which the town of Bingium was also located. In 355 AD the complex fell victim to the Alemanni.
In 1282 the name "Burg Klopp" is mentioned for the first time in a document. Klopp Castle was destroyed several times by armed conflicts, most recently in 1689 in the Palatinate War of Succession.
It was not until the middle of the 19th century that the wealthy businessman Ludwig Cron from Cologne began a large-scale reconstruction. In 1897 the castle became the property of the city of Bingen.

Tested the restaurant today.
Upscale gastronomy with a corresponding price level, but also very generous portions and very tasty!
The view from the terrace of the Rheingau - from the Mouse Tower to Ehrenfels and the Niederwald Monument to the St. Hildegardis Monastery - is stunning and allows you to linger for hours. The restaurant only wants this in connection with consumption, if you only want to drink something you will be placed further back. Too bad, but understandable. You can also enjoy the view from the castle terrace above.

The centuries that followed were bad for the mountain. Castles were built and destroyed. The name "Burg Klopp" was first mentioned in a document in 1282. Klopp Castle was repeatedly destroyed by armed conflicts, most recently in 1689 during the Palatinate War of Succession. The picturesque ruins established themselves as a popular destination during the Rhine Romantic era.It was not until the middle of the 19th century that the wealthy merchant Ludwig Cron from Cologne began a generous reconstruction. In 1897 the castle then became the property of the town of Bingen. Since then, the mayors and part of the city administration have resided here. Severely destroyed in World War II, the fortress presents itself again today as one of the most beautiful landmarks in the city.
