Here a path leads through a rampart (= rampart).
"This rampart is located near the old brickworks, on the right bank. Opposite it, on the left bank, there is another rampart, which can be reached via the bridge, 150m upstream. - Both ramparts tower over a flood dam that connects them. - They were part of the fortifications that Marshal de Villars had built in 1706, and were manned by 30 French infantrymen each until the end of hostilities. The imperial troops had entrenched themselves in Landau. - From 1939 to 1940, German and French outposts were stationed in the respective ramparts." Source: Information board on site
