The source of the Genil is in the Sierra Nevada, north of the highest peak Mulhacén. The river flows through several cities, including Granada, Loja, Puente Genil and Écija, and finally flows into the Guadalquivir at Palma del Río.
The Genil plays an important role in agriculture and water management in the region
