The Royal Castle in Warsaw is a Baroque-Classicist residence at Castle Square, serving as a museum and representative functions. It was built in the 14th century as the seat of the Dukes of Mazovia, and from the 16th century it was the centre of royal power and the Sejm of the First Polish Republic. Located in the Old Town in the Śródmieście district on Castle Square, the roots of the building go back to a fortified wooden building with a defensive tower of the Dukes of Mazovia from the 13th/14th century.
