This island is almost entirely taken up by the botanical garden, striking for its rare flowers and plants from distant lands. The Borromeo Palace was built in the 18th century; it is a lot more authentic and smaller (and younger) than the palace on Isola Bella.

During the flowering period in spring, the Chinese wisteria, floribunda roses and wisteria transform the architecture of this staircase into a spectacle of extraordinary colors. A curiosity: their origin can be recognized by the twists of their trunks and stems. Anticlockwise are the Chinese and American species, clockwise are the Japanese.
