More specifically, a picture and sign have been created of a River Damselfly. It is native to the Netherlands and is endangered. It needs streams, as the name suggests, to survive, along with high-quality water.

The German-Dutch Maas-Swalm-Nette Border Park has been known for many years for its rich dragonfly fauna, as reported in the Natuurhistorisch Maandblad in 2011. The status (evolution) of the population was still static at the time - see natuurtijdschriften.nl/pub/1003320/NAHM2011100010009.pdf

In the late 1980s, more river damselfly species reappeared in the Swalm after the completion of the sewage treatment plant in Roermond.

This wooden statue of the River Damselfly is also one of the wooden statues in the "Boom tot Beeld" (Tree to Sculpture) series by artist Roel van Wijlick for the nature trail in the municipality of Swalmen.
