The German-Dutch Maas-Swalm-Nette Border Park has been known for many years for its rich dragonfly fauna, as reported in the Natuurhistorisch Maandblad in 2011. The status (evolution) of the population was still static at the time - see natuurtijdschriften.nl/pub/1003320/NAHM2011100010009.pdf
In the late 1980s, more river damselfly species reappeared in the Swalm after the completion of the sewage treatment plant in Roermond.
