    The Obelisk of Buenos Aires is a 67 meter high monument built in 1936 in the city of Buenos Aires. The obelisk was built in May 1936 on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the founding of the city. It is located in the Plaza de la República. It was planned by Alberto Prebisch and built in less than four weeks. It is located on the site of the church of San Nicolás, built in 1773, which was demolished and rebuilt elsewhere when construction began on Avenida 9 de Julio in 1936.
