The building of today's State Chancellery is on historical ground: since about 1236, there was a Franciscan monastery on this site, which was largely removed after the Reformation in the second half of the 16th century. The remaining parts of the building served as a princely school. In 17./18. Century was here the economic building of the ducal Marstalls.
