The history
of the wine restaurant "Zum alten Goten" begins with the construction of the house around the year 1392. Today it is the oldest proven half-timbered house in the Nahe and today invites you to be discovered.

The half-timbered house has been standing since 1392, which used to be called "im Gebück".
Since 1392, the half-timbered house has stood in the district of Oberstein below the rock church, which is also known as the "Haus im Gebück".

Located in the middle of the picturesque old town of Idar-Oberstein, you can reach the famous rock church and the Idar-Oberstein mineral museum in just a few minutes on foot from our restaurant. We offer space for around 100 guests on two floors and are therefore also suitable for larger groups.

Klaus Freckman and Burghardt Schmidt describe in their book "Houses and their history in the Hunsrück-Nahe area" (volume 4 of the series of publications on dendrochology and building research), 2004 edition, the half-timbered house as, quote: "The oldest proven half-timbered house on the Nahe" .. "in Idar-Oberstein right on the border of the former city wall". In the centuries after its construction, the half-timbering was expanded around the original core.
