Every year on the last Sunday in April, the voting women and men of Appenzell I.Rh. on the Landsgemeindeplatz in Appenzell to appoint the highest authorities and to make decisions on important state matters. The regional community elects the ruling and the standing mayor and the other five members of the professional commission as well as the president and the members of the cantonal court. The governing mayor is elected for two years; The standing mayor is elected as the governing mayor on a rotating basis. Also every four years the representative of the canton of Appenzell I.Rh. elected in the Council of States.
