The Our Lady of Assistance Church was built in 1877-1879, so that Baarle-Nassau would have its own parish. Before that, the St. Remigius Church, which is located in present-day Baarle-Hertog, was the parish church for both places. However, a disagreement arose between the Diocese of Breda and the Archdiocese of Mechelen-Brussels about how much the pastor would be paid, after which Baarle-Nassau decided to build its own church.

This 'Dutch church' has been the parish church of Baarle-Nassau since 1860. This church was built cheaply and simply with “Belse” stone. Because there was no money left for furnishings, the church was furnished with donations from various church bodies in the area. Since 1932, this church has been enlarged in a massive modern style, which forms a great contrast with the old part.
