The root paths on the south bank are sometimes a bit slippery after rainfall and of course also in winter, so good footwear is recommended despite the slight incline.

The "Hugo Ludwig Bridge" commemorates the sponsor of this small but important section of the path - before its completion in 1953, it was not possible to walk around the lake. This is also where the deepest part of the Weissensee is located.

Until 1952, it was not possible to bypass the Weissensee at this point without a difficult ascent and descent. The rocky outcrop and the steeply sloping lake shore prevented this.

Only thanks to the generous donation for the entire iron structure by Hugo Städtgen and Ludwig Prem, long-time loyal guests of our town who had learned to appreciate the Weissensee and its recreational value, was the Weissensee Tourist Association able to complete the walking path over this footbridge.

      It was a laborious task:

In the winter of 1952/53, machines and materials were transported across the ice covering the lake so that work could begin.

Drilling, chiseling, welding and screwing took place from the ice, and in the spring of 1953 the prefabricated structure was concreted and completed.

The name is intended to forever remind us of the sponsors of this small but important structure.

Great path around the lake that you can walk at any time of the year. It is also very beautiful in winter, maybe a little slippery in some places
