The first mention of a church in Steinweiler comes from a document of Emperor Otto II from 982. This makes it one of the oldest churches in the southern Palatinate. In the 15th century it was rebuilt. The first two floors of the church tower bear witness to this.
After Steinweiler burned down in 1622 during the Thirty Years' War, the church was rebuilt a year later. The nave was rebuilt in 1765/66.
