You come to Goltewitz and this church welcomes you. The field stones in particular, as well as the entire church, look as if they have been painted.

      Goltewitz village church

      Johannes Church in Goltewitz
Only one kilometer away from Oranienbaum is the former Electoral Saxon, later provincial Prussian village of Goltewitz, which was only assigned to Anhalt in the early 1940s. On the south-western edge of the village on a slightly elevated site is the somewhat inconspicuous, but very original-looking stone church from the 13th/14th. Century.

The church has a special individuality. It is an early-Gothic rectangular hall church with a flat closed choir from the end of the 14th century made of field stone, which has been changed several times, with a younger, low west tower made of brick. As a kind of base structure, this bears a wooden-clad bell storey with a slate-covered pyramid roof reaching up to the ridge of the roof.

In this bell storey of the west tower, which was added later, there is one of the oldest bells in Anhalt with the year stamp 1371 - possibly a reference to the time when the church was built. The nave itself has windows of different heights and widths from different construction phases. Last but not least, the mighty oak door points to the former defensive character of the church. The only entrance through a pointed arch portal from the 15th century was built over with a new vestibule in the 19th century. The interior has a flat, panel-like wooden ceiling and a horseshoe gallery.
