The Chinese Pagoda was built from 1793 to 1797 on behalf of Prince Leopold III. Built by Friedrich Franz von Anhalt-Dessau according to plans by William Chambers. Today the building, which was built in the classicist era, serves as a museum.[1]

The four-story pagoda building is located on an artificial hill in the northeastern part of the castle park. The pagoda has a red brick facade, with each floor offset by a surrounding roof. On the upper floor of the renovated pagoda there is a tent roof with a lantern.[1] The octagonal pagoda is also popularly known as the “bell tower”.[2]

The pagoda, with the Chinese teahouse and several arched bridges, is part of the only largely preserved English-Chinese garden from the 18th century.[3] The Chinese garden is also considered to be the earliest in Germany.[4]
