      Mauritius Church, Langenenslingen

Old Parish Church of St. Mauritius

In the old parish church of St. Mauritius at the east end of Langenenslingen, Gothic components from the 15th century are integrated into the baroque complex from 1737. While at that time the choir, the sacristy and the bell storey with an onion dome were added, the masonry of the nave, into which the square tower base protrudes on the north-west side, was essentially left as it was. The recessed chancel with its flat-arched east end is also elongated. From the sacristy, above which there is an oratory, an outside staircase leads to the pulpit, which was replaced around 1840. Late baroque arched windows let the light into the flat-roofed interior, which is divided by the flattened choir arch decorated with a cornice. Unfortunately, the original ceiling stucco, the baroque altars with the original pulpit started by Franz Magnus Hops and completed by his brother Anton Hops and some others were removed in the 19th century. This also applies to the altarpieces by the Sigmaringer Andreas Meinrad von Au, while his painting of the Ascension (1743) on the south wall and his ceiling frescos (1754) in the nave have been preserved: in the middle the martyrdom of Mauritius and in the corners four cartouches with the scapular.

The Stations of the Cross (1810) and the 14 Apostles (1814) are executed by the Sigmaringer Fidelis Wetz. Later, new oil paintings were added to the altars, created by Sebastian Lütz, also a Sigmaringer: Christ on the Cross and St. Mauritius (around 1840) and the Mother of God (1842). Apart from the confessionals and the community pews, two figures of saints carved around 1735 - probably by Johann Joseph Christian from Riedlingen - have survived: St. Ulrich and St. Konrad. A rococo-madonna, several chalices from the 17th and 18th centuries, a classical cross particle, etc. are added.

The high altar was apparently dedicated to St. Mauritius until 1842, then to St. Konrad, the side altar on the Gospels side since 1737 to St. Sebastian, since 1842 to the Mother of God and the altar on the Epistle side to John the Baptist, since 1842 to St. Mauritius .
