Heuneburg, a Celtic settlement with 4-5000 inhabitants around 600 BC (Hallstatt period), had existed since the Middle Bronze Age (16th-13th century BC)
According to Herodotus (Greek historian) it is the Celtic city of
Pyrene - not entirely certain?
It was destroyed by fire around 500 BC. The Heuneburg was a so-called "princely seat", as evidenced by numerous princely graves found in the immediate vicinity. The grave find at Bettelbühl was spectacular, it was that of a princess with rich grave goods. The block recovery (80 tons) was also spectacular.
