Here on the Danube you can see that humanity is able to learn from previous mistakes. The recognized consequences of river straightening and solid bedding in order to gain fertile pasture and arable land in place of the floodplains and floodplains, namely leaching of the river bed, severe floods downstream, loss of flora and fauna, is counteracted over many stretches with renaturation. The river can now develop more freely again and behave more naturally.
