At the western end of the Clarenbach Canal, not far from the Melaten cemetery, a church was built in the 1930s, which was so badly destroyed in World War II that it had to be demolished after temporary restoration. In place of the old church, the Cologne architect Professor Gottfried Böhm built a church from 1967 to 1970 using exposed concrete and red clinker, which finds a crowning conclusion in the bell tower. The angular building form allows the use of niches and small rooms inside for the different tasks of Catholic liturgy.
