1. Minerals and sediments: The water of the Auensee contains fine mineral particles and rock sediments that come from the Lech and the surrounding limestone Alps. These particles reflect and scatter the light in a way that makes the water appear in intense blue and turquoise tones.
2. Deep bottom and clear water: The Auensee is comparatively deep and has very good water quality because there is little suspended matter that could absorb the light. This makes the water appear even clearer and bluer.
