The Heider Bergsee is a remainder lake of brown coal mining and lies west of Cologne near the city of Brühl. The mining of brown coal ended here in 1964 and a year later the Heider Bergsee was created. Today you can walk around the lake very well and swim in the summer in the outdoor pool. Furthermore, there is the possibility to sail, but only if you are a member of a sailing club.
