Hiking

The Guild of Saint Sebastian is the oldest association in the municipality of Westerlo, but it is still alive and kicking. It was founded in 1596. Its main task was then to guard the village.

The Gilde van Westerlo is now an association that includes many disciplines:
A longbow archers guild WSS that is active in both the Kempische Guild shooters and the National and International Shooters Competition.
A flag group Ansfried with a few qualified flag bearers.
A music group The Westels Volksorkest
A dance group Trawantel

The patron saint of the guild is Saint Sebastian. Saint Sebastian is still venerated as a martyr on January 20th. He is invoked against the plague because of his attribute, "arrows." Arrows symbolize disaster and plague. These same arrows make him the patron saint of the shooting guild.
