    Heimhof Castle

The castle is located on a mountain spur that protrudes eastwards into the Hausen valley, about 25 m above the valley floor. A large part of the neck ditch hewn out of the rock seals off the facility to the west. A drawbridge used to cross the neck moat.
A Haimenhofer family is documented for the first time in the middle of the 13th century. The castle was first mentioned in 1331 as a fief of the Kastl monastery. The owners are first the Ettenstätter, then Dietrich Staufer zu Ehrenfels. 1427 to the Notthafft zu Wernberg, owned by the von Loefen family from the 17th to the 19th century. In the 16th century the castle was expanded. Sold to farmers in the 19th century and it began to fall into disrepair. From 1922, the building fabric was secured, extensive expansions and conversions were carried out by the well-known castle researcher Bodo Ebhardt, and more recently by Ernst Maier.
Heimhof Castle is a well-preserved example of a medieval residential castle. It consists of three-storey hipped roof buildings with corner towers and a four-storey palas, which probably originated from a residential tower. The castle complex has the following buildings: the "Jägerhaus", the "Neues Schloss", the "Veste Haus" with a gable on the courtyard side and the gatehouse built by Bodo Ebhardt with half-timbering and subsequent defensive wall. Some of the buildings are still originally furnished. The former ring wall has only been preserved in the west. In the middle of the courtyard there is a 22 m deep well that reaches down to the ground water. At a depth of 6 m, an underground passage leads from it to an overgrown opening at the west foot of the castle, which made it possible for the crew to fail in the event of a siege. The castle is privately owned and cannot be visited.

Since the castle is privately owned, little can be said about the interior. From the outside it is a beautiful eye-catcher on the small mountain and a good photo motif.
