Col Visentin is one of the highest peaks of the rather isolated Venetian Prealps. On it is the Rifugio Col Visentin or Rifugio 5 ° Artiglieria Alpina. From here you can see the sea in good weather.

The idea of building the first refuge of the CAI section of Belluno was taken during the board of directors of 20 May 1898 and formalized in July 1899. The refuge was inaugurated on 23 September 1900 and dedicated to Riccardo Enrico Budden, one of the most beloved and typical pioneering figures of Italian mountaineering. After difficult management, also due to the debt situation, the Budden refuge, during the First World War, was set on fire to make it unusable as a possible shelter for the military.

The reconstruction began in September 1938, when a detachment of the 24th battery of the 5th Mountain Artillery Regiment camped on Col Visentin. The refuge was officially inaugurated on 15 August 1946. In the following years a multitude of radio and TV antennas were erected around the refuge. That wasn't enough, on May 25, 1964 a fire completely destroyed the first and second floors, rendering them unusable. I remember it

When I got up here, I knew that Bergfeuerjack and I had crossed the Alps. It was a terrific experience. I was the happiest and proudest person on earth. I cannot describe the feelings I felt up there. I thank Bergfeuerjack for this wonderful experience.
