The Church of San Rocco (or Temple of San Rocco) stands on the ruins of the Castrum Sancti Elisei, a fortress to defend Ceneda destroyed by the Hungarians at the beginning of the 1400s. At the end of the same century, by will of the knight Nestore Lioni, a first small church dedicated to San Rocco, invoked since the Middle Ages as protector from the scourge of the plague. Since then, following the great popular devotion, the hill took the name of Colle di San Rocco. When the plague struck Ceneda in 1630, miraculously the city remained almost completely unscathed and the people of Ceneda raised San Rocco as co-patron saint of the city together with San Titian. The current small temple, built in 1840 in neoclassical style of the Doric order, was commissioned by Mons. Filippo artigianato. In addition to this, there was an orphanage, which has now been lost.

In 1895 the San Rocco hill and all its possessions were purchased by Count Luigi Sormani Moretti, senator of the Kingdom of Italy, who built a crypt in the basement for his daughter Camilla and restored the entire complex. Today the temple belongs to the Bezzo family who, by purchasing the adjacent house, also assimilated ownership of the church.

Saint Roch, who is the patron saint of this church, was born in Montpellier, France, in the mid-14th century. He is popularly known - along with Saint Sebastian - as a "plague saint". Characteristic of the depiction of Rochus in paintings and as a statue is that he usually points to a plague bump on his leg; Often a dog can also be seen at his feet, because according to legend, when he was caring for plague patients, he was ill himself and withdrew into solitude, providing him with bread every day. The feast day of San Rocco in the calendar of saints is August 16th.
