At 1,241 meters, the Kandel is the highest elevation in the Middle Black Forest and the local mountain of the city of Waldkirch. Its exposed location makes it particularly impressive. On the Teufelskanzel, a mighty rock massif on the northwest side of the Kandel, the witches of the whole area are said to have met to dance with the devil. Most of the imposing rock formation, however, fell of all times on the Walpurgis Night 1981. The mountain is popular with hikers, cyclists, climbers and paragliders. When the weather is nice, you can see from here to the Swiss Alps and the Vosges.

You should still walk the few meters to the summit from here.
