Wonderful view of the small harbor in Ribe.
In any case, it's worth a walk.

The old harbor is also charming, where you can stroll along at a slower pace and discover one or two small details, such as the Viking mast, which shows the highest water levels in the respective years of the storm surges 🌊...

As Denmark's oldest city, Ribe offers a unique atmosphere.
Ribe is one of the few cities in the country to boast a truly well-preserved medieval city center with old half-timbered houses, cobbled streets,
and a magnificent cathedral as its undisputed focal point.
Throughout Ribe, you'll find details long lost in most other cities. Many of the city's beautiful buildings are associated with both famous people and specific periods in the city's thousand-year history, as evidenced by the numerous commemorative plaques, among other things.

Throughout the Middle Ages and into the early modern period, Ribe was the most important Danish port on the North Sea. It's hard to imagine that today when you look from the Mellemdammen Bridge over the Ribe Å River at the romantic old harbor. Once upon a time, the Viking war fleet set sail from here to embark on raids. Merchant cogs from all over the world docked in Ribe, fully laden, their sails billowing proudly in the wind. Not much remains of the once bustling harbor. The large freighters can be found in Esbjerg, about 30 km away. The ship bridge (Skibbroen) is little more than a mooring; only pleasure boats and sailing yachts now dock at the small harbor. The storm surge column is also located in the harbor. The markers indicate how high storm surges have flooded Ribe over time. The highest marker is 6.10 meters above normal water level. It dates back to 1634, when several thousand people drowned in a storm surge.

From the Mellemdammen Bridge, you also have a beautiful view of the historic cathedral. The idyllic town of Ribe, with its highlights, is always worth a visit.
