Angelika Hartmann founded the first non-denominational kindergarten in Köthen. She was an advocate of Friedrich Fröbel's play pedagogy and trained kindergarten teachers in this area.
In 1914, Leipzig parents and kindergarten teachers gave the city of Köthen a monument made by the sculptor Paul Stuckenbuck.
The memorial is marked with a plaque as the 27th Women's Place.
