Unfortunately, the Ypsilante spring has dried up for over 100 years. With the construction of a deep well and the waterworks in 1915, the bubbling water was over.

The existing conversion still gives an idea of how much water originally gushed out here - enough to operate a mill. The strength of the source ultimately led to it being given the name of an irrepressibly strong Greek freedom fighter.

The source and the former stream have largely disappeared from the local population's awareness. Many a hiker or cyclist still follows the signs, only to find that the spring is probably dry. The fact that this has been the case since 1915 is unfortunately not explained on site.
