The very modern and attractively designed church in Emmelshausen is dedicated to Saint Hildegard von Bingen. Even during her lifetime (around 1098 to 1179) this extraordinary woman was famous far beyond her place of work in Bingen (the monastery no longer exists today) and later as a new foundation in Rüdesheim.
She is a teacher of the Church and one of the patron saints of Europe. The memorial day of Saint Hildegard in the calendar of saints is on September 17th.
