Mountain Biking Highlight
he Isenach-Weiher lies in the northeastern Palatinate Forest 200 m north of the B 37 (Bad Dürkheim-Kaiserslautern) and belongs to the forest district of the district town, the actual area of which is about 10 km away.In a narrow side valley, the Isenach was dammed about 5 km after its source in 1736/37 in order to ensure an even water flow of the river. This was necessary because the pumps of the Bad Dürkheim graduation tower were operated with hydropower until 1850, which was obtained from the Isenach. The 17,850 sqm large and maximum 8 m deep Isenachweiher is transparent to the bottom, since only a few aquatic plants can thrive from the steeply sloping shore and covered by tall trees. Despite the poor water flora, there is a considerable variety of fish - also crabs, frogs, newts and water insects are observed. These include the rare dipper, which is on the red list in Germany. On the south-west bank of the Isenachweiher is the former caretaker's house, a large log house built of wood - today the log cabin for the Isenach.Rowing boats can also be rented here for various excursions on the lake, with which the lake can be explored very well.
