The Matthäuskirche, built in 1860/61 to a design by Ferdinand Stadler, was the first Protestant church in Central Switzerland. Richard Wagner was married here to Cosima von Bülow on August 25, 1870.

Hiking
In 1886, the then Queen Victoria attended a church service during her holiday stay. She made a generous donation, from which four bells were later purchased. Richard Wagner married his second wife here; their son Siegfried Wagner was baptized here in 1870.
