Red House, Vaduz (stair gabled house)
The Red House, a stepped gable house with attached residential tower and Torkel building is located in Vaduz Mitteldorf.
The "Red House" was built in 1338 and got its name from the dark red paintwork on the house. This red coloring has been detectable since the middle of the 19th century. A previous building was demolished in the 15th century at the latest. It has had several owners over the years, including the St.Johann Monastery.
The residential tower has four floors and has an almost square floor plan. It is completed by a slightly kinked pyramidal roof. The outer facade of the ground floor and the first two floors are made of unclad and unhewn natural stone, while the fourth floor is plastered and has beveled tower corners.
It has been owned by the Rheinberger family since 1807. The painter, sculptor and architect extended the house from 1902 to 1905.
