The Luimertingenmolen mill, located on the border of Diepenbeek and Kortessem, was mentioned as early as 1293. The name refers to Luimertingen, a fiefdom in Loon under the lordship of Kortessem. Water power was used for milling until 1945. The wooden undershot wheel and the locks were demolished in 1947. Since then, a diesel engine has driven the millstones. All operations ceased in 1969.

The Luimertingenmolen is/was a watermill in Kortessem on the Mombeek stream. Located on Luimertingenstraat, the watermill is near the Nietelbroeken nature reserve and across the street from the Het Holland estate forest. This former corn mill already existed in 1293. The wheel and sluice mechanism have disappeared, and the watermill and farmhouse have been restored and converted into two homes: one for the owners and one for the parents. They blogged about their plans at the time: luimertingenmolen.blogspot.com

While walking through Nietelbroeken, I wanted to take a look at this heritage site, which is part of a broader protected area. That's why I decided to create this highlight: it's not just about beautiful homes in a beautiful natural setting, but there was also a sign announcing that the watermill is being restored. And that can only be a source of joy for mill and heritage enthusiasts.

Apparently under restoration. The half-timbered house has been taken care of. The mill building itself has not shown much improvement and a water wheel is no longer there.
