The gatehouse from 1641, together with the only partially preserved moat, served as a protective structure for the castle (today's district court). In the masonry you can still clearly see the round archways - through which the carriages used to drive to the actual castle grounds.

🚲✨ The Torhaus Otterndorf is one of the most historic buildings in the old town and a silent witness to the former fortifications. Built in 1641, it originally marked the entrance to the castle district and is today the oldest surviving secular building in this historic area.
