In 2005, a bust of Þorgei Jósefsson, master mechanic and CEO of Þorgei og Ellerts hf., was placed at the corner of Kirkjubraut and Merkigerði. It was appropriate to choose this location for the film because Þorgeir lived with his family at Kirkjubraut for years in houses he built at the bottom of the street and he also built Litla-Bakka at Vesturgatu, near the western end of Merkigerði, but in that house Þorgeir lived his first years of marriage. . Þorgeir sat for years on the district committee and town council in Akranes, and the assembly hall was nearby then, and he was on the board of the hospital for a long time. In 1982 he was made an honorary citizen of Akranes. It was employees at Þorgeir and Ellert hf who gave Þorgeir this bust as a gift on his sixtieth birthday in 1962. The picture is by Ríkhard Jónsson (d. 1972) who was and is known for his many kinds of artwork. The original, made of plaster, is kept at the Museum of Architecture.
