The village Glatt was first documented in 767 in a deed of donation to the monastery of St. Gallen. The settlement is, however, much older. Already 750-450 BC Celts settled here. The Romans then built a road from Sulz via Glatt to Kniebis. Until the Reichsdeputationshauptschluss 1803 the place was part of the monastery Muri in Switzerland belonging rule Glatt. After the secularization in 1803 Glatt came to the principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen. The seizure took place, however, already after the completion of the division plan on 2 November 1802. With the Principality of Hohenzollern-Sigmaringen reached Glatt 1850 as part of the Hohenzollern country to the Kingdom of Prussia.

Until 1854, the place was the seat of the Oberamt Glatt. After its abolition Glatt belonged from 1854 to 1925 to the upper office Haigerloch. This was united in 1925 with the upper office Hechingen to the district Hechingen, whose part was smooth until 1973. This year, the town was incorporated into the former Württemberg Sulz am Neckar. (Excerpt from Wikipedia)
The moated castle Glatt is also one of the oldest Renaissance castles in Southern Germany.
